The kids were actually excited about school! I am relieved to have a bit of a schedule! The new room decorations and some organization is going a long way. First soccer weekend last week too. look at these guys from the first day. Jonah’s last first day of elementary school!! Don’t miss Aida’s gloves and fleece on that 90 degree day. I think she fully thought fall should be here when she woke up!

Aida’s Room tips
Well, we finished the room and so far, she has actually slept in the loft every night minus one for a sleepover and another when she really just wanted to snuggle with me. I think the room is fabulous. Here’s what we did…
I took her 1st grade clay self portrait and using and IKEA frame and paper from home, made this cute wall hanging.
Since our trips to Door County this year, she has insisted her favorite animal is a goat. So, I bought some goat art online and some frames from goodwill. I painted and decorated the frames.
We bought a new dresser and a small shelf for her pop up books. She does want a new bookshelf entirely so that she can organize her books. That will have to wait till this weekend. The magnetic board and light are straight from IKEA. Homework goes on the board.
I used a paper cutter from Martha Stewart to help with the little window garland. I was lucky to get this at Goodwill for $3.
I bought the bedding, rug and wastebasket from CW Price (I usually call this place crap warehouse, but we got a pretty good deal)
She is so happy with the room. I totally appreciate my niece, sister and brother in law for giving us the bed. And thanks to my husband for driving all the way to Indianapolis on a Friday evening to pick it up.
Aida’s room. Progress
Aida’s new room
The kids are off to grandma and grandpa camp next week. While away, we’re going to paint Aida’s room, get her a new bed and spruce the space up! So here is the color she wants.
We don’t have the architectural features, but hope to have a rocking loft bed to pull off a very cool look.
Horseback camp for someone special…

Ruff Stuff–Mom and Girl Date
My girl and I have been meaning to take some time, just the two of us to do something special. A friend and colleague of mine told me about a dog game show that we might like to attend. Her dog Scruffy, would be a contestant. The show is called Life’s Ruff and is part of the Dog Saving Network. My girl and I had a blast. She was called up to the stage a few times during the performance to be a contestant with the dogs. I thought she was going to freak out, but she was cute as ever. The dogs were amazing. They had a cartoon sketch artist there to draw pictures of your pooches. We of course had one made….photo to come.
They talked to us about Positive Reinforcement Training for the dogs. I know we don’t do this at our house, but my girl, determined to get Monty and Clementine into the show had me shop for treats, a treat bag and she designed a training booklet to track the dogs’ progress. We almost came home with this guy. She told me she’d give up Budget if we could take him home. Oh yeah, and his name is Chaos. 160 pound of just what we need…..

The kids at our school are getting head injuries because of their blacktop playground. The whole school community volunteers time, funds and energy to get a new play area. This group is especially committed. virtual farmgirl’s post See this adorable video here! Both of my kids are in this “sun”.
