Yuck.
Warm weather has ticks out earlier than normal this year
When we were hiking in Door County last week I chuckled when Aida told me that that this big hole was “the dark side of mother nature.” Where did she get that? I, unfortunately did experience the dark side of mother nature this morning. In the middle of the night, I was having dreams about people throwing confetti on me. I’d half wake up and take a little piece of it and throw it on the ground next to my bed. At daylight, I woke from the daze with another little confetti bit on my arm. I was alarmed to find a tick embedding itself into my arm. I screamed and ran to the toilet to flush it. I returned to bed to try to sleep a little more, only to find another tick crawling up my arm. Okay, panic at this point. I rouse the dark side of mother nature daughter out of the bed. A couple of more ticks fall to my arms and I flush them. I am now offiically heebee-jeebeeing. The final tick falls from onto my back while I am making lunch. Okay, that whole thing is disgusting. I called Orkin (they’re coming Wednesday), we tick prevented the dogs, I stripped the beds and my skin is still crawling. This is what the ticks looked like….
There are days when my life is exactly how I had hoped it would be. I am forever grateful for the perfect upbringing my parents gave me. I can only hope to give my kids half as much as my parents gave me. Yesterday was just that, the perfect day. We went for an early morning swim and continental breakfast. After that, we drove around the peninsula, stopped at a play park
in Egg Harbor and headed up to Peninsula State Park for a hike. Mind you, my daughter is one that forever scowls
and frowns as the prospect of hiking, walking or any other cardiovascular activity. But, she decided she’d join us. I decided to choose the difficult trail. I’ve wanted to take that trail ever since a bike trip with my father years ago in the park led to my only bike wreck to date. Me and that tree had it out…the tree won, my front brake lost. The hike was amazing.
In honor of my Swedish heritage and desire to see the goats on top of the restaurant, we headed to Johnson’s in Sister Bay for a late lunch, meatballs, potato pancakes, eggs, tomato dill soup, crackers, french toast (and that’s just Jonah’s meal). Great meal and Aida bought a little goat to memorialize the event.
Played at a park and then headed back to the condo to relax and hang out at the pool.
I am so grateful for this fabulous family of mine. The sassy spirit and dedicated partnership we have is
incredible. Thank you God.
Good friends of ours, P four, moved away last year and really made me mad. She is frustrating on so many levels, I have often posted that she is one of these rock star moms that does everything. Honestly, I am not exaggerating, just some of the items include soccer mom, soccer team manager, Tae Kwon Do student, runner, part time worker, chef, wife, personable and generally kick ass. In between all of this, she has time to drum up arts and crafts like her colorful string wrapped sticks from that she and her family harvested from her parent’s yard. I joked that she’ll soon get sheep or plant cotton to make her own string.
I decided that though I loathe her perfection, we needed to hook up on our little weekend trip to Wisconsin. We ended up having a complete blast. Between too many bottles of Spotted Cow, 15 slices of home made (of course) pizza each, Kopp’s burgers and frozen custard, cheese, crackers, inspiring tear tugging stories, beach walking and reconnecting with sorely missed friends, I can’t think of a better way to start our little adventure. Thanks Pettit’s! We’ll be back in the summer.
